Peat’s Thoughts: Let me start by saying that I’ve long been putting off this review. No real reason. No real rhyme. I just have been. But no more! So let’s get into it. After pouring myself a dram (or 2) in my Denver & Liely glass, the first thing I picked up on was notes of raisins. Or maybe grapes? Wine. That’s it. Wine. Once sipped though, any trace of a wine disappears with the exception of sweetness. It’s not tannic, like I would’ve expected after smelling it, but rather it tastes like sugar. Seriously, just drinking sugar. And not a lot of it either. It’s not super sweet like Brenne, but more like a teaspoon or two of sugar and, well, water. I seriously tried my best to find more layers of flavour. I sat with it, I closed my eyes, I even started playing Sade just to set the mood. But nope. Sugar and water. The finish is pretty short too and didn’t provide much aside from some pleasant warmth and slight oak on the roof of my mouth. All in all, I much rather the 12 that this has replaced in numerous markets. To those markets, I feel your pain and I’m thankful the 12 is still available here in the states.
